Teaching |
People now live in a world where they are bombarded with a dizzying array of political information. As an educator, I try to help students cut through the noise so that they can better evaluate political information by creating a solid foundation on which to assess the information through the advancement of political literacy.
To date, I have had the opportunity to serve as the instructor of record for several undergraduate courses on topics ranging from introductory courses like Introduction to American Government and Introduction to American Government (Honors), to upper division course like, Campaign Politics, Political Parties, and Electoral Behavior. Research |
My research interests include: elections, political behavior, public opinion, American political institutions, and research methodology.
My dissertation focuses on building measures of ideological competition for presidential candidates, and testing these measures via an integrated theory for explaining the behavior of financial contributors in presidential campaigns during the invisible primary (the year before voting in the primaries begins). To date, my published work explains how electoral vulnerability, party forces, preferences, and the traceability of consequences influences vote switching post-cloture in the U.S. Senate. I also have a number of papers under review investigating topics, including: committee appointment in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the forces that drive individual preferences for interest group regulations.
